Unlocking Patagonia's Flavors: A Cocktail Adventure at Last Hope Distillery

Updated: May 10

Puerto Natales, a gateway to the majestic Torres del Paine National Park, also boasts a hidden gem for spirit enthusiasts: Last Hope Distillery. Having stumbled upon it during my online research on "things to do in Puerto Natales," I knew I had to check it out. A short wait outside only heightened the anticipation, and stepping inside confirmed it was well worth the wait.

But the real treat was yet to come. A friendly and passionate bartender, sensing our enthusiasm, offered us a complimentary tasting of their signature gins. First up was the Patagonian Dry Gin, a clear spirit boasting a unique depth of flavor. The secret? Locally foraged botanicals, a practice that truly captures the essence of the Patagonian landscape. It was smooth and incredibly easy to sip, leaving me eager for the next selection.

The second offering was the Calafate Gin, boasting a vibrant color that instantly piqued my curiosity. Distilled with Calafate berries, a vibrant native Patagonian fruit, this gin promised an explosion of local flavor. This was the one I couldn't wait to try in a creative cocktail, a perfect way to end the night after a long day of trekking in Torres Del Paine.

I was delighted to get a seat at the bar, as a bartender myself I think sitting at the bar is always the best seat in the house to watch the magic happen. We dove straight into the menu, both drawn to playful twists on classics. We started by ordering the Calafate Gimlet, and Miles got the Apio Collins that featured with muddled celery.

Impressed by the perfectly balanced cocktails and creative menu at Last Hope Distillery, we simply had to return for another round. The skilled bartenders did not disappoint – our second visit offered us the chance to explore more of their unique creations. To top it all off, we indulged in their decadent sticky toffee pudding, a dessert that truly lived up to its reputation.

For anyone seeking handcrafted cocktails, impeccable service, and a taste of Patagonian flair in Puerto Natales, Last Hope Distillery is a must-visit. It was undoubtedly my favorite spot for cocktails in all of Patagonia.
